New in 2017 - As recommeded by Which Gardening in 2018 We saw this variety being trialled in Holland a few years ago and set our sights on it there and then. The shape is informal and the colour absolutely stunning - purple with a centre rib of near black, flaring through burgundy to magenta, on the outside of each petal. We find such complex colouring totally beguiling and what tulips are all about....

New in 2021 We first encountered this stunning tulip in Holland back in 2015, long before it was commercially available. We are delighted to have stock for this season. The outsides of the petals are the very palest silver-lilac imaginable but open to reveal a more complex inner, with deeper, painterly tones of lilac suffusing from a violet-blue base and near-black anthers. Contrasting dark stems...

Velvety blooms open faded rose-purple, with a lighter base. As the flowers mature, they darken to rich cassis, with the white flaming from the base giving the subtle bloom of a ripe victoria plum.  Flowering in late April/May at 20" (50cm). Very pretty pink tulip. The colour is deeper at the base, fading towards the petal edges. This variety has been used to great effect at the Alnwick Garden, planted en-masse below flowering cherries. Wonderful colour - doge purple veined beetroot purple. Reliable, long-lasting performer, which naturalises well. We love it grown through the pink cow parsley, chaerophyllum hirsutum Roseum. New in 2020 One of the newer, so-called  'Coronet' tulips. We have to confess to not liking all the introductions which have been made in this group - the shape can be untidy in some manifestations. However, the unique colour of 'Negrita' translates well into this style, making a really neat form. The virtue of the Coronets lies in the strength of their petals, which make for long-lasting flowers...

Beautifully formed flowers of near-black have a rich, velvety sheen and undertones of burgundy-pink become visible with the light behind the petals. Although we use other 'black' tulips where they are appropriate, this is our personal out & out favourite. The flowers are wider than other, more pointed, blacks, so the overall effect is - blacker. We trialled this on the farm a few years ago and found it to be a delightful new tulip - great for both containers and for the front of a border. The flowers are bright pink, with darker flaming, and have the rare attribute of a silver edge to the leaves.
