The Babylon series of dahlias has many fans and we added this purple version to our range a couple of years ago. These dahlias are typified by very large, rather informal blooms, held on strong stems. 'Babylon Paars' is a particularly strong hue, which really grabs the attention in the border. Beautiful new fimbriated variety, sporting flowers of rich purple. Lovers of giant dahlias adore 'Emory Paul' (often because they have seen it growing en-masse at Great Dixter). It's a terrific variety once it gets going but that can be very late in the season. Waterlily-type dahlias are renowned for their weather resistance (due to the reduced petal count) and charmingly natural appearance. 'Twiggy' is a lovely example of this light-headed type of dahlia, with flowers of soft pink, warmed by a hint of gold at the petal base. In cultivation, we have found that many of the flowers display open centres (more like peony-flowered dahlia), which is great for pollinating...

This pretty member of the single, orchid (or star) flowered 'Honka' range sports white-centred pink petals. As with other Honkas, the open centres are attractive to pollinating insects. A strong grower, which has great impact in the border. We have also used it in our horse trough planters over the past couple of years, in combination with ammi visnaga and dahlias 'Boom Boom White' & 'Priceless...

There are some wishy-washy coloured single dahlias around (though not in our range!), so we were delighted with the sheer vibrancy of this introduction. We submitted it for trial at Wisley a few years ago, where it gained much attention. Makes a vigorous, bushy plant, covered in blooms which are enhanced by the dusky foliage.
