Tulipa 'Candy Prince'
We fell in love with this tulip at Keukenhof this Spring. Seeing the flowers, of a most delicate lavender, massed under cherry trees, was a 'stop in your tracks' moment. 'Which' Gardening Magazine agreed with us, voting it a 'Best Buy', after trialling it in containers.
Flowering in April at around 14" (36cm).

Tulipa 'Salmon Prince'
Recent addition to the 'Prince' series of short, early flowering tulips. We loved the warm, sunset tones of this variety - the flowers are lit from within with yellow-gold, whilst the ouside of the petals are burnished with rich copper-salmon. Flowering in April at 14" (35cm).

Tulipa 'Avignon'
Richly coloured flowers of flame-orange with a hint of deep rose. One of the 'French' tulips, which are tall, beautifully coloured and harmonise well with each other. We grow 'Avignon' with 'Menton' to great effect, especially when combined with 'Fire King' wallflowers.

Tulipa 'Bleu Aimable'
Sought-after old variety (dating from 1916) with neat flowers of cool, lavender-blue. It gave rise to the sport 'Blue Parrot' but is itself hard to come by now. We love to grow it with the dark 'Paul Scherer'.
'Bleu Aimable' has often been justly claimed to be the 'bluest' of the so-called 'blue' tulips, along with its sport 'Blue Parrot'. We find it to be reliably perennial, as might be expected...

Lovely deep 'Victoria plum' coloured blooms, which are a wonderful foil for brighter colours.

Lovely, elegant tulip, with flowers in a delicious blend of pale apricot and pink. Height is statuesque and it looks wonderful if you have large containers to fill. Tulipa 'Queen of Night'
Deep velvet maroon-black flowers with a satin sheen to the petals.
Probably the darkest of the maroon-black tulips available, this reliable variety is wonderful for bringing a note of drama to 'warm' colour schemes, which echo its own red undertones.

Tulipa acuminata
This is a tulip which needs careful placement to ensure that its effect is not overpowered by its surroundings. Giving it a background of dark foliage can be successful, as can planting it sparsely through grass which is not over-lush. Bulb size 8+ cm

Tulipa bakeri 'Lilac Wonder'
Lovely cultivar of a species tulip, making a striking mid-spring display at the front of the border. The mauve-pink flowers have a yellow throat for a colour combination that really glows. Hardy bulb. Ht.6" (15cm).

Bright red flowered form of this charming little species. Our photograph was taken at RHS Wisley, with the blooms showing up brilliantly against a gravel background.

Tulipa clusiana
The Lady Tulip – this is the true species and now hard to come by. The petals are white with a broad stripe of carmine red on the outer sides. Inside, the flowers are pure white with a striking violet base. Hardy, early season tulip., great for naturalising. Ht. 10" (25cm).

Tulipa clusiana 'Lady Jane'
Delightful clusiana hybrid. The flowers are white with a soft pink to the outside of the petals and yellow blotch within. When the blooms open up in the sun they appear as a sea of white stars.
