Tulipa 'Cairo'
This classically shaped tulip is a wonderful rich bronze - an exciting colour for garden tulips. It can be used to bring depth to orange schemes or drama to reds or purples.
It could also be used as a taller partner to back plantings of the species tulipa whittallii (burnt orange/slate green).

An unusual tulip for the subtle tones of copper-pink which underlie its bluish-purple colouring. Interestingly, it comes from the same tulip breeder who raised the enigmatic (and no longer grown) 'Malaika'. Flowering in April at 16" (40cm).

Tulipa 'Crown of Dynasty'

Sadly, 'Picture' - the original 'Crown' tulip - is not currently available. We do have this new introduction though, a pink 'crown' tulip sporting a white base. It's a pretty newcomer which is sure to find favour with admirers of this unusual tulip form, which has the great advantage of long-lasting blooms. Flowering in Late April/early May at 20 "(50cm).

Tulipa 'Indeland'
We saw this variety being trialled in Holland some years ago and set our sights on it there and then. The shape is informal and the colour absolutely stunning - purple with a centre rib of near black, flaring through burgundy to magenta, on the outside of each petal. Tulipa 'Jacuzzi'
We first encountered this stunning tulip in Holland back in 2015, long before it was commercially available. We are delighted to have had stock for the last few seasons. The outsides of the petals are the very palest silver-lilac imaginable but open to reveal a more complex inner, with deeper, painterly tones of lilac suffusing from a violet-blue base and near-black anthers. Velvety blooms open faded rose-purple, with a lighter base. As the flowers mature, they darken to rich cassis, with the white flaming from the base giving the subtle bloom of a ripe victoria plum. Flowering in late April/May at 20" (50cm).

Tulipa 'Mistress'
Very pretty pink tulip. The colour is deeper at the base, fading towards the petal edges. This variety has been used to great effect at the Alnwick Garden, planted en-masse below flowering cherries. In our own borders, it has been reliably reflowering for several years now.

One of the newer, so-called 'Coronet' or 'Crown' tulips. We have to confess to not liking all the introductions which have been made in this group - the shape can be untidy in some manifestations. Tulipa 'Pretty Princess'
We trialled this on the farm a few years ago and found it to be a delightful new tulip - great for both containers and for the front of a border. The flowers are bright pink, with darker flaming, and have the rare attribute of a silver edge to the leaves. It has the popular 'Princess Irene' in its heritage and has the same flowering time and height.

A new Triumph tulip is always worth a look, as this group consistently produces some of the most reliable - amd often perennial - of tulips. Tulipa 'Red Dress'
Following in the footsteps of the popular established varieties 'Picture' & 'White Liberstar', is this rich red version of the crown tulip. The unique shape of this form of tulip results in flowers with extra thick petals, which are both robust and long-lasting. The flower buds start off much like the furled buds of a hybrid tea rose, opening to the typical 'crown' shape.

Tulipa 'Request'
We first encountered this tulip in the north of Holland some years ago, when it was quite new, and were intrigued by the unusual colour. At the time is was known as 'Quest' and the grower cut some flowers for us to bring home with us. We love it for its wonderful, tapered flowers, in a most unusual blend of copper-orange, flushed rose-mauve on the outside of the petals. The bonus of scent too!

Tulipa 'Slawa'
We have adored this tulip since first trialling it in our borders a few years ago. The colour seems to work well with any other warm hues - apricot, bronze, orange.
