We saw this variety being trialled in Holland some years ago and set our sights on it there and then. The shape is informal and the colour absolutely stunning - purple with a centre rib of near black, flaring through burgundy to magenta, on the outside of each petal. Velvety blooms open faded rose-purple, with a lighter base. As the flowers mature, they darken to rich cassis, with the white flaming from the base giving the subtle bloom of a ripe victoria plum.  Flowering in late April/May at 20" (50cm).
