Tulips - Lily Flowered
Always an elegant choice, lily-flowered tulips, with their cinched-in waists & reflexed petals, show their distinctive shape off best if not too closely crowded together.
If you are one of the many devotees of this group of tulips, it is worth noting that a number of varieties included in the Viridiflora group also share the lily-flowered shape.

Tulipa 'Mariette'
We supplied this variety for a client's garden in 2021 and were sufficiently impressed to include it in our catalogue. The long, tapering flowers are a rich shade of rose pink, with no hint of blue, and held aloft on strong, tall stems. Flowering in late April/May at 22" (56cm).

Tulipa 'Pieter de Leur'
Nicely 'waisted', vibrant red tulip, with a touch of purple to the outside of the petals which helps to outline the elegant shape. Flowering in April/May at 15" (38cm).

This recent, lily-flowered introduction has a commanding presence, with substantial flowers of rich, reddish-purple. We used it in many of our own planting combinations this year, to good effect.

Tulipa 'Purple Heart'
We trialled this new variety this spring and loved its dramatic colouration of claret-purple. The shape was pleasing too, with the petals arching out elegantly as the flowers open. Flowering in late April/May at 15" (38cm).
