These native North American bulbs are easy and immensely rewarding to grow. They favour damp, heavy soil, where they build into good-sized colonies in time, but are remarkably tolerant in most respects. By choosing different varieties, the flowering display can be extended from early May until mid-June, starting with the blue c.leichtlinii caerulea, followed by c.cusickii, c.Zwanenberg, c.leichtlinii alba and, finally, c.leichtlinii 'Sacajawea' and the double-flowered c.leichtlinii semiplena. The shorter c.esculenta presents its dark blue flowers midway in this period.
Please note that these bulbs are available to order on-line from June, for despatch from September onwards, and we also have limited stock of potted bulbs, in flower or bud now, available to personal callers to the nursery.
Please also note that we will be opening up the other bulbs in our extensiuve range over the next few days, so if you place your order now, you can place another order later and we will 'merge' the two so you only pay one P&P. This does not apply to our range of autumn flowering bulbs, as these will usually be despatched separately and will incur a separate P&P charge. It also does not apply to dahlia orders. If in doubt, telephone us to discuss.
** Camassia can be planted from September to December, depending on your soil and weather conditions. We have all the bulbs in stock and will start to despatch orders in date order (many were ordered at the beginning of June), but don't worry, you will all get your orders in time for planting and to flower next spring.
