Larkspur ‘Earl Grey’ Delphinium flowers in softest grey – a highly original colour. Annual variety which is excellent as a border filler or for cutting. HA for sun. Ht. to 3’ (1m)

Lathyrus latifolius Hardy, perennial climbing pea, smothered with many stems of pink flowers over a long period in summer. Ht. & spread 6’ (2m) or more.

Lathyrus vernus The spring pea bears fresh, ferny foliage topped by bright purple and blue flowers. Striking and uncommon. HP for sun. Ht.1’ (30cm).

Leucojum aestivum ‘Gravetye Giant’ AGM Tall stems bearing emerald-tipped, white bells. Very desirable yet easy to establish. Prefers a moist, even wet spot, but thoroughly easygoing.. Flowers April/May, 18”.

Lilium Candidum The Madonna Lily produces heads of up to 15 pure-white, sweetly scented trumpet flowers in mid-summer. Prefers a well-drained, limey soil in sun. Ht.4-5’.

Lilium duchartrei (Marbled martagon). Very rare variety – fragrant, white turk’s cap flowers with purple spotting. Not difficult in humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade, but needs time to establish. Hardy bulb. Ht.3’ (90cm).

Lilium longiflorum AGM Stems of fragrant white trumpet flowers, each up to 8” (20cm) long, in summer. Excellent in pots. Hardy bulb for sun & well-drained soil. Ht.3’ (1m).

Lilium martagon album AGM The creamy, unmarked Turk’s Cap flowers show up beautifully in a shady spot. More unusual than the red form and most desirable and special. Flowers June/July 36”.

Lilium martagon The Turk’s Cap Lily bears many beautiful, pendant flowers with upswept petals of pink or purple, often with darker spots. Best in some shade in limey soil. Flowers June/July 36”.

Lilium nepalense Truly spectacular and rare Himalayan species. Nodding, pendent greenish-cream flowers blotched maroon-purple within, the petals to 6” long. Hardy, summer flowering bulb for a sheltered spot & humus-rich, peaty soil. Ht.28-36” (70cm-1m)

Lilium pardalinum AGM The Leopard lily. N.American species bearing turk’s-cap flowers of crimson with darkly spotted golden centres. Will naturalise in light woodland conditions or amongst shrubs. Hardy bulb, flowering mid-late summer in lightly dappled shade & rich soil. Ht.3-5’ (1-1.5m).

Lysimachia ciliata Spreading, summer flowering perennial which is a less commonly available member of the loosestrife family. The foliage emerges deep brownish-red in spring, becoming greener as the stems lengthen to carry spires of airily-spaced, mid-yellow flowers in mid-late summer. Hardy perennial for sun/part shade and tolerant of heavy soils. Ht.24-30” (60-75cm) Spread indefinite.

Lysimachia puntata Whorls of bright yellow flowers on strong, upright stems all summer. Vigorous, making broad drifts of strong colour for informal plantings. Pleasing near water. HP. Ht.36” (90cm) Spread 24” (60cm) or more.

Lysimachia punctata ‘Alexander’ Uncommon variegated form of Yellow Loosestrife, with leaves marked with white, yellow & touches of pink. The spires of bright yellow flowers are carried over a long period from early summer. HP for sun/dappled shade. Ht. To 30” (75cm) Spread 24” (60cm).

Lythrum salicaria ‘Robert’ Effective and easy border perennial, particularly suited to a moist, waterside position. Spikes of carmine-rose blooms are carried from mid-late summer. Ht 21/2-3’ (75-100cm). HP for sun/part shade.
