Iris bucharica A Juno group iris, this unusual and vigorous bulbous species produces pale yellow flowers with deeper yellow falls in spring. The glossy, healthy-looking foliage is an added bonus. Hardy bulb for a sunny, well-drained site. Ht. 12” (30cm).

Iris chrysographes Darkest violet, nearly black flowers with gold etching on the falls make for a stunning iris. HP for sun & fertile, moist soil. Ht. 16” (40cm). Spreading habit.

Iris ‘Dardanus’ Herbaceous iris of the regelio-cyclus group, noted for large & stunningly marked flowers. The standards & falls on this variety are of lilac/purple, with the falls heavily netted brown. Hardy for a sunny spot & excellent drainage. Ht.16-20” (40-50cm).

Iris Katherine Hodgkin AGM Probably the most coveted of all the reticulata irises. The palest cream background provides the foil for the stunning markings - deep yellow on the falls with dark blue striping and flecking. A miniature treasure. Flowers Feb/March, 5”.

Iris reticulata Natascha The first near-white reticulata and still rare. The merest hint of blue sharpens the brightness of the dainty flowers and provides a clear contrast for the orange/yellow markings on the falls. Hardy spring flowering bulb best in semi-shade. Ht.6” (15cm).

Isatis tinctoria Woad - a source of blue dye - makes a statuesque and unusual centrepiece for a border, similar in form to crambe but with numerous yellow flowers followed by decorative black seeds, HB to 4’. Provide sun & good drainage.

Isoplexis sceptrum A native of Madeira and a member of the foxglove family, this tender, evergreen perennial forms a branching shrub up to 6’ (2m) in its native habitat but usually attains more modest dimensions grown here. In summer, it carries heads of burnt-orange flowers, like contracted foxglove spires. Keep frost free and on the dry side in winter. Water freely when in growth.
